Trip Recap: High Dunes Migration Field Trip

Over 25 Indiana Audubon members enjoyed a warm day searching out the warblers, thrushes, flycatchers, and more throughout the high dunes region of Indiana Dunes State Park.

In total, nearly 100 species were logged on this full day field trip.  Birders walked the FLOODED and famed Trail 2/10 loop in the Dunes State Park, ventured down old State Park Road, and also birded along sections of Kemil Rd before doing a quick driving tour through Beverly Shores.  Afterwards, many continued on to a buggy Heron Rookery unit of the National Lakeshore.  By the end of the day, the last remaining bravehearts treked down to McCool Basin for stellar looks at a White-rumped Sandpiper.

For the day 25 species of warblers were seen, some providing excellent views, such as the Prairie Warbler on the right.  Other great counts included 9 singing Cerulean Warblers, multiple looks at Mourning Warblers, and several Scarlet Tanagers!  Thanks to all that joined us!
