| Black-necked Stilt Photo taken in Goose Pond unit 1 by Marty Jones on June 4, 2006. |
On July 21, 2007 thirteen of us met Dr Lee Sterrenburg in Linton Indiana for a late afternoon into early evening walk through Goose Pond unit 1. Participants included Tom Goldsmith, Matthew Becker, Michael Becker, Kim Breeden, Jerry Downs, Jeff Elliott, Sally Routh, Jim Sullivan, Nancy Tatum, Douglas Gray, Andrew Mertz, Kevin Nevers, and Margaret Schwartz. Many thanks to Lee for sharing his extensive knowledge of the area and bringing us close to American Bittern, Black Necked Stilt, Yellow Crowned Night Heron, and many other typical marsh species. A full accounting of what was seen is available on IN-Bird. For those of you who have not had an opportunity to bird this Important Bird Area you are truly missing a work in progress to develop an area within our State to re-attract many of our Marsh Friends. Thanks again Lee for a wonderful trip.
